Food Waste in Numbers
We did a short survey to find out more about the food usage habits and awareness of ordinary people:

Our survey population was primarily people from the US with around 50% of respondents from Colorado
The majority of our responses were from people younger than 30

Over 120 billion pounds of food is wasted every year in the US alone
Curiously, the average compost rate for American households is 6%. This clearly shows some bias to our results.

As most people guessed, The vast majority of food waste does come from grocery stores.
The majority of people are interested in learning about how to use food waste reduction programs

Many of the people we surveyed were not aware of ways to get free and reduced price food
Our results give us good insights into the food waste habbits and beliefs of the general public. Of the nearly 300 people who took it, most had realistic and well educated ideas on food waste topics. As education increases and people become more self aware toward their food usage habits, we hope to see the national and global averages improve.
